About Prof.(Dr.) Dharminder Kumar
Prof. (Dr.) Dharminder Kumar is an accomplished legal academician and higher education administrator with over 22 years of professional experience, including extensive experience in academic leadership, institutional administration, strategic planning, curriculum development, admissions, research and legal education.
Dr. Kumar holds a Ph.D. in Law from Department of Law, Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, an LL.M. from Kurukshetra University, and an LL.B. from Department of Law, Himachal Pradesh University. He has also completed an Executive Programme in Strategy and Leadership from IIM Kashipur.
Over the course of his career, he has held senior academic and leadership positions at several law schools and Universities, including Lloyd Law College-Delhi NCR, Geeta Institute of Law (GIL)-Delhi NCR, School of Law, SGT University -Delhi NCR, School of Law, Lovely Professional University, School of Law, Rayat Bahra University Mohali and Amity Law School, Raipur. His responsibilities have included academic and administrative governance, curriculum development, admissions, faculty development, institutional planning, research promotion, student development, and building professional and institutional linkages.
His academic and professional interests include Criminal Law, judicial reforms, AI & Law, speedy justice, legal education, legal research, technology & law and innovation in legal education. His doctoral research focused on the right to speedy trial in India in comparison with the United States of America.
Dr. Kumar is the Founder of LawOF, a legal education portal serving law students and law teachers. He has contributed to curriculum development for undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral law programmes and has served on Boards of Studies, Academic Councils and other academic bodies.
He has authored three books, including Legal Position of Right to Speedy Trial in India, Right to Speedy Trial in India: A Comparative Analysis with United States of America, and Dreaming Law as a Career. He has also contributed research articles to peer-reviewed, UGC CARE listed and Scopus indexed journals and has served in editorial and reviewing capacities for academic journals.
His institutional contributions have included establishing and strengthening initiatives such as moot court societies, internship and placement cells, Pro Bono Clubs, legal aid activities, faculty development programmes, academic discussion groups and specialised academic centres. He has also been actively involved in organising national and international seminars, conferences, moot court competitions, workshops, legal awareness programmes and other academic activities.
Dr. Kumar has received the National Teacher Award (2018) and Best Mentor Award (2019) in recognition of his contributions to teaching and mentorship. He is also a life member of professional bodies including the Indian Law Institute (ILI), Delhi and the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Delhi.
